I don’t know if you ever think about it but things sound so different in the dark. I always think, you know how sometimes you’re sitting around the table talking, and suddenly the lights go off. And then for a second, everyone falls really silent. No one says anything. And everyone’s really careful about the sounds they make. You just become really conscious of the way you sound. And everything that you say. And every word that comes out of your mouth.
I think sometimes – for people who’ve forgotten what it is to communicate – they should try just sitting in a room and switching the lights off. I think we should do that a lot more often. I think it will remind us of what’s really important. Because in the dark, you really… hear. More importantly, you listen. You listen to what people are saying.
I don’t know if you ever think about things like that. Do you?
I do.
But I spend a lot of time on my own. And, a lot of time in the dark.
One of the things I miss the most from my childhood/teens is lying in the dark just listening to music thinking of nothing else.
Things did sound so different in the dark. There were songs I could only really connect to if I listened to them in the dark.
Since we’re deprived of some sense of reality, it’s easier to open up to higher sensibilities.
Unrelated but did you ever swim in the dark?
Slowly going under warm water in the dark is another unique feeling.

I have swum in the dark. It is even beautiful than one can hope to express. The deadened sound as well as the blue darkness. I’ve never felt ao safe from life.

I don’t know about things said out loud, but the way i think is deeper when its night time. I think the calm that night brings just makes us more in tune with ourselves. Or maybe it’s just that our senses are more heightened. Either way, I love quiet nights sometimes. They’re just what I need.

Perhaps it is the quiet we seek within ourselves that we find reflected in the night.

See… listening to things in the dark is like listening to radio. There are no visuals. So you pay attention to what is being said. On the other hand, while watching TV, it’s alright to skip a few words here and there since most of the story is being told (shown?) visually.

This might seem like shameless pimping of my own blog but I thought something similar a couple of years back and just wanted to share. http://gilltyascharged.wordpress.com/2009/02/14/midnight-wanderings/
