I used to live alone before I knew you

It dawned upon me this afternoon that I hadn’t had a pizza in 4 weeks or more – which is not rare – but today, it brought about such a sadness within me. A sadness that I understood immediately. A sadness that reminded me of storm-weathered nights in what seems now, so long ago. Nights when pre-cooked tiffin dinners from the neighbour seemed unbearable. When all we had to do was look at each other, smile and reach for the phone to dial for a medium-sized chicken supreme and an orange-flavoured soda for you.

Today has nothing to do with you anymore, and everything as well. But, I suppose anything can be a reminder, if you let it.

I thanked God I’d kept my music away from you and my books. But I remember hearing you hum Hallelujah when you thought I wasn’t listening, and

I didn’t finish lunch.
